Snow. Finally!

Juniper isn't sure what to think of this snow. This is the first snowfall of her life. She was born last May into really warm weather.

For the chickens, it's business as usual.

The boys are thrilled to finally have snow to play in.

It only snowed for a couple of hours; not much accumulation at all. But still, it was really nice to have our first snow. We are hoping for more though!

Is This January or May?

It's been so warm all winter long my plants are thinking that it's time to begin to flower. It's not so unusual to see the snowdrops this time of year, but everything else is showing up way too early.

You can see this hyacinth's flower buds peaking out.

My poppy looks is looking marvelous.

Tomorrow the weather is supposed to begin a period of more seasonable temperatures. Into the 30's for highs. What will become of my bulb plants?

Jake Turns Nine

This Saturday we celebrated Jake's 9th birthday with a bowling party and a few of his school friends. We all had a blast with bowling, pizza, cake, and presents!
An intimate party with only a few friends.

Opening gifts. This one was a stack of Boxcar Children books!

Look at this itty-bitty egg laid by one of our chickens. It’s the cutest thing we’ve ever seen. It looks like a toy egg! We wanted to keep it around just to enjoy its petite beauty; but one day, Asa decided that he wanted to know what it tasted like as an over-medium egg.

After cracking open the egg, we saw that it wasn’t quite formed right. I chose to pitch it instead of eating it.

Then we cooked one of our other more normal eggs. Beautiful! And yummy too!
